OUTDOOR PAINTING CLASSES
at Three Leaf Farm in Lafayette, Colorado

Breathe in deeply connecting with nature as we stroll through the meadows, sit by the river and find strength beneath the boughs of a 100 year-old willow tree.

INTRODUCTION to ACRYLICS
March 10, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

Kicking-off this year’s outdoor painting classes, we’ll get started with a lesson on acrylics. After a comprehensive introduction to this medium, you’ll have plenty of time to practice painting using this versatile medium using different paper and canvas sizes with a variety of brushes and tools–all while painting outside “en plein air”.

FORAGED and FOUND
April 14, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

Through simplicity we find ease; the bedrock of attuned self-expression. In this class, participants will meet and greet their unique style. As we meander our way around the farm, we’ll forage a few items like twigs, grass, and rock. Playfully painting you’ll have the opportunity to create whatever unfolds.

NATURALLY: The Beginner’s Herbarium
May 12, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

Natural journaling often relies heavily on scientific inquiry. However, in this expressive class participants will practice a blend of journaling, creative writing and art to explore the farm's abundance of botanical allies. Each participant will leave with the beginnings of a Materia Medica to further their botanical interests.

WHIMSY on WOOD
June 9, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

Using plaster and water, participants will play with basic shapes and broad strokes on wood to create uniquely different pieces expressing their authentic selves.

LETTING GO
July 14, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

Believe it or not, letting go can be one of the hardest things any artist can do. However, when it happens, intuitive expression can be healing and freeing. During this class you’ll use fluid acrylics to experience self-trust and this liberating process.

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
August 11, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

It's sure to be hot in August but we’ll make the most of the temperature by using the heat to make uniquely textured creations. Vastly different from painting with acrylics in cold weather, we’ll explore how this medium reacts to hot weather and the fast drying time of acrylics when it's above 80 degrees outside.

EBB and FLOW
September 8, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

With cooler nights expected in September, we’ll enjoy a relaxing morning by the Coal Creek. Using ink wash on paper and acrylics on canvas, participants will explore how to “flow” with these two viscous mediums.

FANCY FEATHERS
October 13, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

In this feathery, whimsical class participants will paint their favorite bird. Using a technique from the Middle Ages, we’ll reveal lower layers of paint to add depth and texture to your paintings.

INNER WISDOM: Solstice Reflection
December 15, 2024 . 9am - 1pm
Three Leaf Farm

As the crisp, cold air coats the farm with frost, we’ll take a walk and then nestle inside the barn for a morning of tea and hot cocoa enjoying a lesson on book making, being creative and setting intentions for the new year.

THE ARTFUL WAY

  • Your creative self-expression experience will begin with a leisurely stroll on the farm. Once at our chosen location, we’ll begin class by exploring expectations and intentions to invite presence and frame our time on the farm as the class progresses.

  • After checking in with our expectations and setting our intentions, we’ll set up our painting area(s). I’ll provide a brief lesson / tutorial and then we will ease into our activity. There will be plenty of time for questions as well as one-on-one instruction and mentorship.

  • At the end of each class, we’ll reconvene for a summary of the day’s lesson, additional questions or feedback and an invitation to share your experience with the group.

THE CLASS EXPERIENCE

Combining nature, creativity and mindfulness, all painting classes are held in-person and outside whenever possible. Each session will begin with a mindful beginning and a nature walk. Once we’ve arrived at our chosen location (gazebo, barn, riverbank or pasture), we’ll ease into our morning activity. Each participant will have plenty of one-on-one instruction. Prior to ending class, we’ll reconvene for a reflective closing. No prior painting experience is necessary.
